The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Nigeria’s Abia State for the 2023 general election, Prof Uche Ikonne, is dead. This was announced in a statement by his son, Dr Chikezie Uche-Ikonne, on Wednesday. An unmarried lady who escaped lynching has been arrested for allegedly killing her baby after giving him tramadol to enable him to sleep deeply so she could go for clubbing with friends. Contrary to the resolution of the Senate, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) insists that its January 31, 2023 deadline for the validity of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes stands. The Senate, Wednesday, December 29, directed the CBN to extend the deadline for the withdrawal of old naira notes from circulation from January 31, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has apprehended 303 suspected irregular migrants with Permanent Voters Cards in the Uyo metropolis following their mop-up exercise in Akwa Ibom State. The Comptroller of Immigration Service in Akwa Ibom Command, Mrs. Francisca Dakat, made the disclosure while briefing journalists after the mop-up exercise, Saturday, in Uyo.
