The Central Criminal Court in London, the United Kingdom, has moved the trial of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, from May 2023 to January 31, 2023. The Old Bailey agreed that arguments will be heard on the 16th or 19th of December 2022 before the commencement of the trial in January. The former deputy senate President and his wife Beatrice were arrested on June 23 this year and charged with conspiracy to traffic a person for organ harvesting in violation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Members of Congress of University Academics (CONUA), the breakaway faction of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), are reportedly set to receive their eight-month salary while lecturers were on strike. A member of CONUA and lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, who spoke to Daily Trust, said the leadership of the union has already got a hint about payment of their eight-month salary from the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. The Borno State Police Command has allegedly arrested a sheep and her two lambs for eating a heap of smoked fish displayed for sale at Bulabulin Ward in Maiduguri, the state capital. The ‘arrest’ made on Saturday, November 6, 2022, following a complaint lodged by a trader identified as Yusuf Ibrahim, who sells fish in the neighbourhood. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded Federal Government to pay ASUU members full salaries for the duration of their eight months’ industrial action. This is as body condemned the deductions from the October salaries of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to double print about 93 million ballot papers for the conduct of the 2023 Presidential election in Nigeria. The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has reacted to reports claiming it paid members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria (ASUU) half-salaries for the October. Recall that the lecturers on October 14 called off their eight-month-old strike. As the month of November began, some of them granted press interviews stating that they were only paid half of their October salaries.
