One person died in a four-storey building that collapsed along Iman Street off Aka Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital on Saturday, the State Government has confirmed. The remains of the deceased, a male was recovered from the rubble by men of Akwa Ibom Fire Service and bagged out to mortuary. While four persons were rescued and taken to hospital, others were feared trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building which was under construction. Federal Government has asked state and local governments to intensify and set up efforts to avert related disasters in their domains. The Director-General, Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Clement Nze, in a statement in Abuja on Friday, September 16 appealed to authorities in various states in the federation to work towards preventing massive flooding in the states. The Akwa Ibom governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Umo Eno, who is standing trial for alleged certificate forgery, on Tuesday, September 13, tendered what he claims to be the original of his WAEC certificates. This follows a demand by Federal High Court, Uyo to produce his certificate.
