The National Assembly has passed a harmonized version of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill that includes the direct, indirect and consensus primary modes of nominating candidates by political parties for elections. The harmonized version, passed by the lawmakers during Tuesday’s plenary, is the final agreed version between the Senate and House of Representatives, on the amendment to Clause 84 of the bill, Channels TV reports. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended its planned nationwide protest over petrol subsidy removal scheduled for January 27 and February 2, 2022. Addressing journalists in Abuja Tuesday, January 25, Ayuba Wabba, NLC President said the union decided at its national executive council meeting to suspend the strike based on the federal government’s decision to halt subsidy removal on petroleum. The Federal government had on Tuesday proposed an 18-month extension for the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA). Gospel artiste, Sammie Okposo, has publicly apologised to his wife, Ozioma, after cheating on her, regretting the pain it has caused her and the family. Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari has backed the call for the execution of Abdulmalik Tanko, who has confessed to killing five-year-old pupil, Hanifa Abubakar. The United States has ordered the families of its diplomats in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv to leave the country “due to the continued threat” of a Russian invasion, the State Department said Sunday.
