Three teachers and an unspecified number of students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State were abducted Thursday, June 17, the Kebbi state police command has confirmed. A statement by Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson of the state police command, says a combined team of Police operatives are currently in hot pursuit of the bandits who attacked the school. President Joe Biden, Thursday, signed into law legislation establishing June 19 as Juneteenth National Independence, a US federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States of America. The holiday is the first federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1963 and becomes at least the 11th Federal holiday recognized by the US federal government. Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s first president and one of the last of the generation of African leaders who fought colonialism, has died. Aged 97, Kaunda was admitted to a military hospital in the capital, Lusaka, on Monday suffering from pneumonia. His aides said he did not have Covid-19 vaccine.
