The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says Nigeria’s active telephony subscribers have increased from 203 million to 208 million with teledensity at 108.92 per cent. The NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Umar Garba Danbatta who stated this in a statement on Thursday added that active internet subscriptions increased to 154.9 million and broadband penetration hitting 45.07 per cent. Nigeria’s oil-producing states collected N31.827 billion as derivation or 13 per cent of Mineral Revenue from Federation Accounts Allocation Committee for December 2020. The oil-producing states include Akwa Ibom- the largest oil producer with 31.4% (504,000 BPD), Delta – 21.56% (346,000 BPD), Rivers – 21.43% (344,000 BPD), Bayelsa – 18.07% (290,000 BPD), and Ondo – 3.74% (60,000 BPD). Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has confirmed 1,386 new COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total to 114,691. NCDC in its official Twitter handle of Wednesday, January 20 said 14 persons died, bringing the total number to 1,478 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country. An Uyo High Court in Akwa Ibom State has sentenced a 23-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping his three-year-old stepdaughter in Ikot Akpe, Uyo Local Government Area of the state. Iniobong Okon Moses, a native of Afaha Udo Eyop in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the State, was arrested on November 8, 2019 for raping the minor.
