Grammy-nominated producer and pop artist, Sophie, is dead. Aged 34, the Los-Angeles-based artiste died on Saturday after she slipped and fell off while watching the full moon. In a statement, Sophie’s management said the musician had died at around 04:00 on Saturday in the Greek capital, where she had been living. The embattled president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, has been dramatically restored back to his position following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He was banned by FIFA in November for five years after football’s world governing body found him to have breached several of its ethics codes. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says 26 persons in Akwa Ibom State were discharged on Friday, bringing total number of persons discharged so far to 520. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it plans to challenge the result of the December 5, Imo North Senatorial by-election at the tribunal. A Mapo Customary Court, Ibadan, Friday, dissolved a 38-year-old marriage between a trader, and her estranged husband, over financial exploitation and a threat to life. Delivering judgment, Chief Ademola Odunade, the court’s President, said that evil could not strive forever, due to Justina Bassey’s eventual realisation that her husband, Evans, was exploiting her. An experimental COVID-19 vaccine appears to offer strong protection in late-stage UK and South Africa studies, said manufacturer Novavax. The Phase 3 trials – the final stage before a vaccine is looked at by a regulator – enrolled more than 15,000 people aged between 18-84, of whom 27% were older than 65, US firm Novavax said. After 13 years, Dutch court has ordered Shell to pay compensation over oil spills in Nigeria’s Niger Delta in a ruling which could pave the way for more cases against the multinational oil firm. The Court of Appeal in The Hague on Friday ruled that the British-Dutch company, which is headquartered in the Netherlands, must issue payouts over a long-running civil case involving four Nigerian farmers seeking compensation, and a cleanup, from the company over pollution caused by leaking oil pipelines. “Shell Nigeria is sentenced to compensate farmers for damages,” the court said, adding that parent company Royal Dutch Shell…
Anambra State Police have arrested one Prophet Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as ‘Onyeze Jesus,’ waiting for arraignment in a court of law. The controversial prophet had claimed in a video message that he would raise seven corpses in mortuaries.
