As Nigeria registered six more deaths and 356 new COVID-19 cases, Akwa Ibom State recorded seven new COVID-19 infections on Monday. So far, Akwa Ibom has 402 confirmed cases with nine deaths, though 343 persons have been discharged. Following a second wave of COVID-19, Nigerian Government, Monday, ordered closure of schools in the country till January 18, 2021. The chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, announced this at a press briefing of the task force in Abuja. The Federal Government has gazetted the Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State. The seaport was approved last Wednesday by the Federal Executive Council in Abuja. The seaport is expected to form the nucleus of Ibom Industrial City involving the host six local government areas in the state. Telecommunications workers in the Nigeria, over the weekend, rejected the two-week directive by Federal Government for telecommunications operators to block subscribers’ lines that failing to link them with the National Identification Number, NIN. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has shut three microfinance banks in Akwa Ibom State together with 39 others in the country. The banks are Akcofed MFB, Uyo; Gufax MFB, Uyo; and  Sapphire MFB, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. The CBN has also withdrawn the operating licenses of 42 Microfinance Banks (MfBs), and the affected microfinance banks have been shut down. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has promoted 2,880 officers and marshals in Nigeria. The Corps Public Education Officer Assistant Corps Marshal, Mr Bisi Kazeem, who announced this on Sunday in Abuja said the FRSC approved the promotions following the consideration of a report by its establishment committee.
