Nigeria Tuesday reported five new deaths as a result of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 1,088, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said. In a late-night tweet, NCDC also confirmed the country recorded 90 new cases of the novel Coronavirus. The new figures put the country’s total caseload at 56,478, with 44,430 cases discharged. The Anambra police have rescued a 15-year-old pregnant girl and eight children suspected to have been stolen from different Nigerian states. The police have arrested a five-member gang of a child stealing/trafficking syndicate operating in the state. Two university lecturers in Akwa Ibom State would soon be dragged to court by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their alleged involvement in electoral offences during the 2019 general elections in the state. Lagos, Nigeria’s epicentre of COVID-19, returned with 52 new cases on Monday as the country got 132. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) stated this on Monday via its official Twitter handle.
