The unemployment market has peaked as 4.48 million persons have applied to the Batch C of the Federal Government N-Power National Social Investment Programme (NSIP). The programme which opened for registration 16 days ago is expected to employ 400,000 persons. Nigeria on Sunday reported 571 new cases of COVID-19 with 343 more recoveries. Akwa Ibom State has recorded 11 new cases of infections, bringing the total number of the pandemic to 145. Similarly, Cross River State that the state Government claimed was invulnerable to the pandemic has reported four new cases, summing the overall to nine so far. Nigeria on Friday recorded 575 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total caseload to 31,323. This was revealed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet via its official handle. According to the health agency, 224 new cases were reported in Lagos, 85 in Oyo, and 68 in the FCT. Other states with new cases are Rivers (49), Kaduna (39), Edo (31), Enugu (30), Delta (11), Niger (10), Katsina (9), Ebonyi (5), Gombe (3), Jigawa (3), Plateau (2), Nassarawa (2), Borno (2), Kano (1), and Abia (1).

The Chief Judge of Ondo State has objected to the request of the state House of Assembly to set up a probe panel for the impeachment of Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor of the state, over allegations of gross misconduct. Oluwatoyin Akeredolu rejected the request on the grounds that two-third majority as required by the 1999 Nigerian Constitution for setting up such panel was not formed in the assembly.
