By: Israel Umoh The political cloud of Nsit Atai local government area in Akwa Ibom State gathered following the suspension of the local government chairman. In what some political pundits saw as lack of fairness and injustice, the political gladiators linked to the suspension saga are busy trying to disperse the cloud of accusations, counter-accusations, hearsays, media war and gossiping from snowballing into the rain of violence. Across the political divide, the dogfight is tense, precipitating a crisis of confidence between the suspended chairman, councillors and some major political actors in the area. Inaugurated as Chairman under the platform of…

By Akanimo Sampson Thirty-two vulnerable countries are lagging behind the world average by 20 percent in the United Nation’s human development index. One-third of their 440 million inhabitants live in extreme poverty, 51 percent face food insecurity daily, and 40 percent lack access to electricity. UN is currently urging governments to provide smooth transit transport for their landlocked neighbours. According to the global body, when borders around the world close, every country suffers, but those without territorial access to the sea are affected in unique ways. In a statement on Tuesday, six UN agencies warned that economic and social conditions in…

The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday affirmed the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomole as a member and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ruling on the interlocutory appeal filed by Comrade Oshiomhole, the appellate court upheld the decision of the Federal Capital Territory High Court delivered by Justice Danlami Senchi. The court had in March ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole as well as restrained him from parading himself as the National Chairman of the party. In a unanimous judgment in the first appeal delivered by Justice Eunice Onyemanam, the court held that the FCT High Court had…
By Akanimo Sampson Except something very unusual happens before the middle of 2021, the Rivers State wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) might not enter the 2023 elections in the big oil and gas state as a cohesive party. The party is still suffering from severe internal bleeding and its leaders are not helping matters with their seeming unguarded utterances. From the look of things, the party is driven more by individual interest than the collective interest of all. It is high time the principal leaders of the crisis in the party began to contain their over-bloated ego, and…
Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki Tuesday announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC. Obaseki said in days to come he would announce the new political platform where he will be seeking his re-election. The APC screening committee for the Edo State governorship election had disqualified Governor Obaseki from contesting the forthcoming party primary. Mr Obaseki’s disqualification, which happened on Friday, climaxed a long-run battle between the governor and Adams Oshiomhole, the APC National Chairman who is a former governor of Edo State. Days before his disqualification, there was confusion about the genuineness of Mr Obaseki’s university certificate, until the…
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has indirectly upbraided Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for the inability to distinguish between the NGF and the Progressive Governors Forum which is the political platform of APC Governors. In what appears a diversionary tactic, Abdulrazaque Bakindo, a spokesperson of the NGF, rather blamed Paulinus Nsirim, Rivers State Commissioner for Information of misinforming the Governor, explaining that the NGF has six core mandate areas and politics is not one of them. Speaking against the background on the disqualification of Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki in the APC primary, Wike through Nsirim in a video shared on…
