President Muhammadu Buhari had on Monday signed the new Public Holiday Act into law altering May 29 to June 12 as Democracy Day. Former Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, representing Sulurere 1 in Lagos State has been declared the new speaker of the ninth House of Representatives. Also, Hon. Senator Ahmed Lawan, representing Yobe North has been announced as Nigeria’s Senate President. Lawan polled 79 votes to beat his closest rival, Ali Ndume, who packed 28 votes. The election of Senate President was held at the first session of the Senate on Tuesday.
