For the second time in a row, FIFA has crowned the Belgian National team as its team of the Year.
The team retained top spot ahead of world champions France in the latest world rankings released on Thursday, Dec 19, football’s world governing body said.
This is as Nigeria’s Super Eagles retained their spot as the world’s 31st team in the World Football Ranking for December. In the ranking table on the website of world football governing body FIFA on Thursday, Nigeria have garnered 1,493 points, the same as they had in the November ranking.
Belgium won all 10 of their competitive matches in 2019, and also finished third in the World Cup in Russia in 2018. Brazil took the third spot while England moved up a spot to fourth place below Brazil while Uruguay are fifth.
Argentina (ninth) and Colombia (10th) entered the top 10 this year displacing Switzerland (12th) and Denmark (16th).
World Cup 2022 hosts Qatar were the biggest climbers as they moved up 38 places after winning the AFC Asia Cup.
Qatar, who will host the 2022 World Cup, were the biggest climbers in a year as they moved 38 places to sit 55th after gaining 138 points following their AFC Asian Cup win.
