The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Tuesday, said BRICS will help to promote Africa and challenge the structure of the United Nations in the continent.

Ayodele, however, lauded the inclusion of some African countries, including Nigeria, as partners in the BRICS block.

In a statement by his spokesman, the prophet explained that BRICS will offer Africa better options than the United Nations and the misconception about the African continent will begin to change for the better with BRICS.

According to him, ‘‘BRICS will wake up Africa and will challenge the UN’s Capacity in Africa structure. It will make Africa more sensible because it will offer what the UN has not offered before. This will cause a conflict of interest in the UN because the body has enslaved Africa for so long.’’

The prophet noted that there will be opposition against the prosperity of BRICS in the continent but regardless, he revealed that more nations will join because it will promote coexistence among nations.

‘‘BRICS is a welcome development to balance Africa and make the continent excel. Although there will be opposition against BRICs in the continent, more African nations will join and this will harmonize co-existence and integration in the continent.

‘‘It will correct a lot of misconceptions about Africa and tidy up the continent properly. With BRICs, Africa will begin to experience more financial and economic stability,” he added.

    BRICS Members, partners

BRICS acronym stands for the names of the original members of the organization: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

As of 2024, the BRICS organization has seven members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.

The other two countries, Ethiopia and Iran, joined the BRICS organization for the first time at the 16th BRICS Summit in October 2024.

BRICS has officially expanded its alliance, adding 13 new nations as partner countries, though not as full members.

The announcement was made during the BRICS summit, held in Kazan, Russia, from October 22 to 24, 2024.

The 2024 summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Fair Global Development and Security,” marked the 16th annual gathering of the bloc, with a focus on enhancing economic integration with key emerging nations.

A post on X (former Twitter) from the bloc on Thursday read, “BRICS officially adds 13 new nations to the alliance as partner countries (not full members).”

The countries are Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe on Thursday confirmed to that Nigeria is a partner in BRICS.

“Yes. It is true that Nigeria joined BRICS as a partner,” he said.

The organization was created in 2001 by Goldman Sachs economist Jim O’Neill, who believed that these countries would become the world’s dominant economic players by 2050.
