    Celebrations greet killing of Notorious Robber in Akwa Ibom

    Celebrations by residents of the affected communities greeted the killing of a notorious robber, Wisdom Sunday Akpan, by the State Police Command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) in Akwa Ibom.

    SP Odiko MacDon, the command’s spokesperson, said in a statement on Thursday, August 3, 2023, that Wisdom, a serial killer was part of the feared robbery gang led by the late Malachi Uwen Friday.

    ‘‘The gang had killed 13 people, including a female Corps member, Chinwendu Lovina Ezeh, and wounded 22 others.

    ‘‘Wisdom shot at the police when they tried to arrest him. He had robbed and terrorised many people in Ibiono and Uyo LGAs. He also murdered Nsikan Vincent Udo and stole his motorcycle on July 22.The police recovered a gun, cartridges, a motorcycle, and charms from him.

    “The police have killed Wisdom Sunday Akpan, a notorious armed robber who was wanted for killing 13 people and injuring 22 others in Ibiono and Uyo LGAs. He stole from many residents of Ikot Ambang, Ikot Efun, Ikot Inuan, Itak, Ikot Osukpong, Okobo Ibiono and other areas. He was shot by the SWAT team when he resisted arrest. He was part of a gang led by the late Malachi Uwem Friday. He also killed Nsikan Vincent Udo of Ikot Inua and took his new Q-link motorcycle on July 22,” MacDon said.

    According to him, “Wisdom, a notorious armed robber, terrorised many people in Akwa Ibom State before he was finally arrested by the police. He shot and wounded Jesse Johnson and two others at a POS Shop on July 8th, and also injured Augustina Dominic at her supermarket on July 5th.

    ‘‘He stole millions of naira from various businesses and made people live in fear. The police recovered a fake AK-47, cartridges, a motorcycle, charms, a mask and other items from him.’’

    The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, has warned other criminals to leave the state or face the consequences.

    However, he thanked the citizens of the state for their cooperation and trust in the police and urged them to continue to support the security efforts.
