Two prominent US citizens have called the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the country to wish them well barely a day to February 16 presidential election.

The former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, called the Nigerian President and APC candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, on phone to wish Nigeria and Nigerians well ahead of tomorrow’s general elections.

Similarly, Michael Pompeo, the United States’ secretary of state, has put through a call to Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate, to affirm the international community’s commitment to free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

Atiku who stated this on his twitter handle on Friday, wrote “Earlier today I received a call from US Secretary of State, @SecPompeo, who reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to free and fair elections in Nigeria.”

He also said that he was, “Wishing you all a peaceful elections, wherever you are. God bless Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, ex-President Clinton, who was supposed to visit the country to witness the Wednesday’s signing of peace pact between the two political candidates, President Muhammadu Buhari, Atiku Abubakar and others had to cancel his visit, saying that his visit could be politicised.

He had, however, put through a telephone call to President Buhari during which he wished Nigeria well, a statement from Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, had said.

“President Clinton, who regretted his inability to visit the country to witness the signing of the final peace accord before the general elections, wished Nigeria well as her citizens go to the polls,” the statement had said.
