By 10.15 a m, relations, church members, friends and colleagues had filed past the remains of the departed.

Pastor Iniobong Dominic who preached the sermon took his text from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.

As soon the church ended proceedings, a bevy of youths and adults milled around and carried the coffin, and headed to the graveside.

By this time, the church had gone, but the spectators stood akimbo watching the emergency pall bearers who clutched the coffin.

As soon as they reached the graveside, they lowered Peter’s remains into the grave.

A young man took over, brought out a bottle of dry gin and performed funeral rites.

Not long, a thunderous gunshot rang out “gbooom” that shook the arena.

Some scary spectators bolted away as the young men rendered: ‘‘My brother, don’t you worry, my sister, don’t you worry, if I die in the warfront…’’

The stationed soldiers and policemen did not scare the youths wearing black singlet emblazoned “Porty Porty Cartel” from thronging the graveside to catch a glimpse of their departed comrade.

Thereafter, the select scooped sand into the grave, and the rest rendered esoteric songs as the “earth-to-earth” was done. And the crowd thinned and withered  as the event was rounded off.
