A Federal High Court sitting in Katsina, Thursday, declared Engr. Yakubu Danja, as the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primaries and the general election as the member representing Bakori/Danja Federal constituency at the House of Representatives.
However, the court sacked the incumbent member, Amiru Idris as the party’s candidate in the February, 23, 2019 House of Representatives election.
Danja, who polled 314 votes to defeat the incumbent member, Amiru Bakori with 305 votes in the primaries and was declared winner by the APC National Electoral Committee in the state headed by Dr. Isah Adamu, had raised concerns over alleged substitution of his name by the national headquarters of the party.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Hadiza Shagari, the trial judge, held that Danja is the party’s right candidate for the election since he scored the highest votes at the October 5, 2018 party’s primaries.
Justice Shagari said “The substitution of the plaintiff name (Danja) with that of the second defendant (Idris) as the first defendant (APC) candidate in the House of Representatives election is null, unlawful and of no effect. The reliefs sought by the plaintiff are hereby granted and the originating summons succeed.”
Danja had approached the court seeking seven reliefs including a declaration that he was the APC right candidate for the election since he scored the highest figures of 314 on October 5, 2018 party’s primaries as against Idris’ 305.
