Contrary to reports in some social media that embattled Professor Cyril Ndifon, the former dean of the University of Calabar’s Faculty of Law was kidnapped, the Department of State Services has cleared the air that the don was in their custody.
Ndifon was rumoured to have been abducted by armed individuals at his residence in the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The Professor, who was suspended by UNICAL management over misconduct in a sexual relationship, was the subject of a request for assistance from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.

Recently, some students of the Law Department embarked on mass protest calling for the head of the ‘’randy’’ lecturer, a situation that resulted in his suspension until the matter was properly investigated and report submitted by the panel set up by the university.
DSS, in a message released on their X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday and signed by the DSS Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya confirmed his arrest.
Professor Ndifon was ultimately detained by ICPC agents in Calabar, Cross River State, on October 4 as a result of continuous refusal to reply to their multiple invitations, according to Afunanya.
A court order was used to effect his arrest.
He wrote, “The ICPC has sought the collaboration of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Sex Scandal matter involving Professor Cyril NDIFON, the erstwhile Dean of Faculty of Law of the Institution.
“The Commission had disclosed the refusal of NDIFON to honour its several invitations thus his eventual arrest in Calabar, Cross River State by its operatives on 4th October 2023 based on a Court Order.
“However, the Service, following the Commission’s request and in the spirit of interagency cooperation, supported it for a successful operation. This is to guide public understanding of the latest developments on the matter.”
