Two persons were shot dead in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State during last Saturday’s Presidential/National Assembly elections.
Etim Ekpo is the home local government area of Emmanuel Enoidem, the PDP candidate for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
Speaking on the security situation in the area, Prof. Felicia Ebuh, the INEC returning officer, said two persons were shot dead while two others sustained injuries.
The injured were hospitalised.
Ebuh stated that there were gunshots as early as 8 a. m. in the area which scared away the INEC staffers, adding that elections did not hold in ward 6 and two units in ward 7 and 5.
She said: “We had issues yesterday. As early as 8 a.m., there were gunshots and INEC Staff had to run away. Two people were shot dead and two were hospitalised. The election did not hold in ward 6, and two units in ward 7 and 5.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the presidential election in the local government area s declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC got 5,182 votes to beat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) which had 4,733 while Labour Party (LP) had 278.
