    Enoidem, Offia among 58 Lawyers for bestowal of SANs November

    Emmanuel Moses Enoidem and Felix Ota Offia are among the 58 legal practitioners approved by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) to be bestowed with the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

    Out of the 69 applicants who were shortlisted for the title, 58 were deemed worthy.

    A statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary  of the LPPC , Hajo Bello, said the new SANs were appointed as a mark of excellence for distinguished advocacy and academic contributions to legal practice.

    Fifty seven of the 58 newly appointed SANs were appointed from legal practice while only Professor Babatunde Adetunji Oni was appointed from the academia. The advocates made the list in order of seniority at the bar.

    The swearing-in ceremony of the new silks will hold on November 27, 2023.

    Among the newly appointed SANs is Emmanuel Moses Enoidem, a one-time law lecturer, University of Uyo, ex-Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and PDP Treasurer in Akwa Ibom State. Others are Dr. Kayode Ajulo, a constitutional lawyer and rights activist and Funmi Falana, wife of renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana.

    The LPPC dismissed four petitions that were filed against some of the applicants. The committee stated that these petitions lacked merit but chose not to disclose the names of the applicants or the nature of the petitions.

    The appointment of these new SANs underscores the accomplishments and contributions of these legal professionals to Nigeria’s legal field. It serves as recognition of their unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice and the rule of law.
