A one-time ad hoc Protocol staffer to the then  Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Uyo has bagged 14 years’ imprisonment for defiling his 10-year-old biological daughter between 2018 and 2019.

Akwa Ibom State High Court, Uyo presided over by Justice Bassey Nkanang sentenced the randy father, UduakAbasi Edet Oku to 14 years’ imprisonment for committing the crime.

Oku, a native of Ikot Ekpene village in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was convicted Thursday by  the Court.

The convict who is also a civil servant was standing trial on a two-count charge of rape punishable under section 367 and assault occasioning harm, under section 364 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Volume Two, Laws of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, 2000.

The particulars of the facts of the case are that Uduak Oku Edet had from July 2018 to October 2019 repeatedly assaulted and raped his own daughter in his house at 3, Mark Chere Street, Uyo on five occasions.

In one of the incidents, the randy father was said to have had sex with his own daughter through the anus which led to her experiencing difficulty in defecation and had another when the minor returned from school for holidays and her father inserted his finger into her vagina.

The victim told the Court that after the incident, she started experiencing pains in her vagina together with swollen breasts, which resulted in infection with brown and black discharge coming out from her private part.

Not enough, the 45-year-old father is said to have flogged and used a knife to stab his daughter on the head for taking food in the kitchen to eat without the permission of her stepmother.

Respite came the way of the poor girl when Akwa Ibom State Chapter of Federacio International de Abogadas, an organisation of women lawyers, otherwise known as FIDA, came to her rescue by reporting the matter to the Police.

Trial commenced December 21, 2021 and ended on August 2, 2022.

In his judgment, the trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang found Uduak Oku Edet guilty of rape and accordingly convicted him.

“The defendant is hereby sentenced to 14 years imprisonment and same shall be computed from and including the 10th of October, 2019 when the defendant was arrested till and including 3rd March, 2022 when the defendant was admitted on bail by this Court.

”Upon reckoning with the afore-stated period, the computation of the sentence shall commence today till the entire term is completed. This is the judgement of this Court in this case,” Justice Nkanang pronounced.

Recall that Prophet Anwana Peter Essien, a native of Afaha Ise in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was on Wednesday sentenced to 21 years’ imprisonment for defiling a 10-year-old step-daughter at Itiam Street, Uyo.
