The deposed Kano Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has indicated interest to sue Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano State Governor over his detention and banishment in the court.
Lawyers to the dethroned Emir have asked the Governor Ganduje to reverse the erstwhile monarch’s banishment from Kano or be prepared to meet them in court.
Sanusi’s lawyers also issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Kano State Government to release him from unlawful custody.
The former emir’s counsels, led by Abubakar Mahmoud, made the request at a press conference on Tuesday.
His lawyers while addressing the press in Kano Tuesday said he has not been able to reach the deposed Emir since his removal from office on Monday.
According to them, he said he could not guarantee the safety of the Emir who has banished to Nasarawa State.
Information obtained by Straightnews indicates that the Emir has been relocated to Awe town by the Nasarawa State Government.
Sanusi 11 who was dethroned on Monday by Kano State government over what government called insubordination by the Emir was banished to Loko in Nasarrawa State.
He arrived in Loko Development Area in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state at about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
This followed Sanusi’s departure from the Mallam Aminu International Airport, hours after the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Usman Alhaji, announced that he had been removed as the Emir of Kano.
The former Emir of Kano, who was earlier taken to Loko Development Area of the state, was later airlifted about 1:30 p.m on Tuesday.
It was gathered that the deposed Emir landed in Government House, Lafia at exactly 2:25 p.m. amidst tight security.
Meanwhile, Sanusi has been appointed into the board of the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency (KADIPA).
The appointment came barely 24 hours after the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led government of Kano State dethroned Sanusi as emir.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai, in a statement on Tuesday, announced the reconstitution of the board of KADIPA as well as Sanusi’s appointment as vice chairman of the new board.
“Malam Nasir El-Rufai has appointed His Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II into the board of KADIPA. The appointment is part of the reconstitution of the board of KADIPA, which is statutorily chaired by the Deputy Governor and has as internal members senior officials of the Kaduna State Government,” Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai’s special adviser on media and publicity said in the statement.
