With the exit of Ayodele Fayose from office, John Olukayode Fayemi, Tuesday, assumed duty as new Ekiti State Governor.
Born in 1965, Fayemi, a former minister of Solid Minerals Development, was elected governor for a second time under the platform of APC on July 14, 2018, after defeating Professor Olusola Eleka of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
He had served as Ekiti governor from 2010 to 2014.
The swearing-in programmed was attended by notable Nigerians and the All Progressives Congress chieftains. President Muhammadu Buhari was represented by Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The National leader of the APC, Chief Ahmed Tinubu, Chief John Odigwe Oyegun, the former chairman of APC Governors Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos state, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, among others.
Fayemi’s deputy, Adebisi Adegboyega Egbeyemi, was the first to take the oath of office.
Afterward, at 12:22, the Chief judge of the state, Justice Ayo Daramola, took Fayemi through the oath taking process.
Meanwhile, the advance team of Fayose, the outgone Ekiti Governor are now at Wuse 2 office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Recall Mr. Fayose, whose tenure expired today, had earlier promised to visit the EFCC office today once his tenure expires as a serving governor.
Some of those sighted included Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, Deji Adeyanju, activist, Fayose’s aides and others.
The ex-governor is been investigated by the EFCC for allegedly receiving N1.3 billion illegally from the Office of the National Security Adviser through Musiliu Obanikiro, the then Minister of State for Defence as well as the mismanagement of some project funds.
