The Federal Government, Thursday, inaugurated the construction of dual carriage way from Kano to Dayi town in Katsina State, awarded at N62.7 billion.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at Dansudu village in Tofa Local Government area of Kano state, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Babangida Husaini, said the contract was awarded to CGC Nigeria Ltd.

He said the road, which has a length of 83 kilometres long, when completed, would last for twenty years as it is expected to be constructed to the standard.

“The road is 83 kilometres and it has three bridges and it is expected to be completed within 24 months,” he said.

He called on the Kano state government to pay compensation to owners of the farm land and other structures acquired for the project.

He also appealed to the communities living along the road to give the contractor the necessary support for the speedy completion of the project.

In his remarks, the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje described the project as very important because the road links Kano with Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states and Niger Republic.

“Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road is a major link to Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, as well as parts of Niger Republic.

The rehabilitation of the road will boost social and economic activities across the four states and beyond,” Ganduje said.

Ganduje, who, promised to pay compensation to owners of farmlands and other structures acquired for the project, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the project.

The Senator representing Kano North, Sen. Barau Jibrin, who facilitated the project, said the project was part of his campaign promises.

Barau, who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, said the project was requested by people of Tofa, Gwarzo and Kabo due to the bad nature of the road that had become a death trap to the people.

He added that President Buhari had swiftly approved the request, and the project had been flagged off on Thursday.
