Ahead of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent Gernot Rohr packing as the coach of the Super Eagles.
The NFF has rather appointed its Technical Director, Augustine Eguavon, to take charge of the team on an interim basis.
Rohr was appointed on August 16, 2016 after signing a two-year contract as a coach, thus replacing Sunday Oliseh as permanent boss of the Super Eagles.
“This is with immediate effect, and follows the termination of the relationship with Franco-German Gernot Rohr, who has been in charge of the three–time African champions for the past 64 months, and is Nigeria’s longest–serving manager,” an official statement on Sunday read.

The decision was taken during a virtual meeting of the NFF Executive Committee on Sunday.
Eguavoen will work with Salisu Yusuf, Paul Aigbogun, Joseph Yobo, Dr Terry Eguaoje and Aloysius Agu.
Former captains Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Garba Lawal will provide technical and ambassadorial support.
Eguavoen will now take charge of the Super Eagles, ahead of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations taking place in Cameroon 9th January – 6th February 2022, and until the appointment of a substantive Head Coach.
Financial Implication of sacking Gernot Rohr
The financial implication of sacking Rohr now is that he will get a payoff of over N600 million because he pays his coaching staff from his salary.
Rohr gets $45,000 per month as salary and has one and half years still to go.
So, the NFF will look to cough out if they decide to sack him this month.
