    Five suspects accosted at scrap dumps in Akwa Ibom Police net

    Five suspects arrested at two different scrap dumps in Akwa Ibom are cooling their feet in the state Police Command net.

    A press release dated August 13 and signed by DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Police Command said ‘‘In a proactive operation targeting stolen vehicles and goods, operatives of the Command successfully apprehended three suspects at scrap dumps within Uyo.

    ‘‘The operation was conducted in compliance with directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, regarding stolen cars.

    ‘‘At approximately 4:30 P.M., officers stormed a scrap dump yard located at Mechanic Village, Abak Road, Uyo. There, they arrested one suspect, Uzoma Uche, ‘m’ who was found dismembering a Peugeot 404 pick-up van. The vehicle lacked identifying particulars, leading officers to suspect it was stolen,’’ John pointed out.

    In a related development, she stated ‘‘Shortly thereafter, at another scrap metal dump, two additional male suspects, one Alhassan Haliru ‘m’ 29 yrs and one Aminu Zailai ‘m’ 30 yrs were apprehended while attempting to sell a set of new spanners.

    ‘‘Upon their arrest and subsequent interrogation, both individuals confessed to stealing the spanners from a local tools’ shop.

    ‘‘Investigations are ongoing.’’
