Former member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who represented Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency from 1999 to 2003, Obong Isong Isang has passed on.

A trained Pharmacist, active politician, community leader and soccer star, Isang passed away on Friday morning, December 2, 2022 after a brief illness.

From Abiakpo Ikot Essien in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, he was a Knight of John Wesley.

Isang was the Chairman of Akwa United FC from 2007 to 2015. As a tested footballer, he played for Kofine FC, Jetimo, Flash Flamingos and Calabar Rovers FC.

Reacting to the demise, the management, players and staffers of Akwa United Football Club said they received with great shock the sudden demise of their former chairman, Obong Isong Isang.

The Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey, on their behalf described the deceased as a passionate and brilliant football administrator with wonderful experience which made him successful as a player, politician, administrator and an entrepreneur.

“This is terrible news for me as a personal friend to Isong Isang and to all of us at Akwa United. Death is a natural and inevitable path for all mortals but taking him away at a time like this saddens us all.

“Isong was the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Stakeholders Forum and his demise is a monumental loss to the entire football fraternity in the state and beyond. His wealth of experience and positive contributions will surely be missed as we look forward to repositioning football in Akwa Ibom State.

“On behalf of Akwa United Football Club, we pray God Almighty to grant his family the strength to bear the irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal repose, Amen.”
