The consistent training of his constituents for global competitiveness has earned Rt. Hon. Unyime Idem, the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom the sobriquet: ‘China Man.’
Governor Umo Eno nicknames Idem: ‘China Man’ owing to the high number of Akwa Ibom persons he has sent to China for training in different fields of human endeavour.
Already, four persons from the Federal Constituency have departed for China to undergo advanced training on Climate Change and Climate information Service, courtesy of Dr. Idem, the member in the 10th House of Representatives, Abuja.
The trainees, who are Kufre Thompson Ekpo, Nsikan Sunday Okomem, Imoh Emmanuel Udom and Ukeme Saturday Umoren, are the 19th batch of trainees.

These services enhance proactive decision-making in agriculture, policy, and disaster management among the trainees to adapt to increasing weather volatility.
Idem insisted that the all-expenses-paid foreign advanced training initiative now takes a different dimension with expansion of the sponsorship target to 1,000 youths surpassing initial target of 100 youths to making them self-reliant to compete with their counterparts across the world .
‘‘I am making this huge commitment believing that the experience will expose Akwa Ibom youths to relevant skills needed for optimum efficiency and global competitiveness,’’ he stated.
Idem reminded them that the world is a global village, stressing the need for them to be exposed to modern technology to compete with their counterparts globally.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Procurement expressed the hope that wherever they have an opportunity to work, the beneficiaries would not lag behind.
According to him, ‘‘I have taken this step because what is helping me today to record these milestones is the series of trainings and exposure I have garnered over the years across the globe, and it is my desire that they will do better than me.’’
After handing them “Letters of Nomination and Sponsorship to Training in China,” reading “As a participant in the training, you are entitled to a travelling allowance, but beyond that, your experience there will put you on a pedestal to compete favourably with your counterparts across the globe.
“I, therefore, advise you to be of good conduct as an ambassador of Akwa Ibom state and the country, Nigeria.

“I wish you a safe stay throughout the training period and journey mercies, to and from China. Congratulations!” he added.
