Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Akon Eyakenyi have greeted Dr. Sunday Mbang on his 86th birthday for his contributions in fostering religious harmony and unity among Nigerians.
The Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr. Mbang, (CON) who turned 86 Friday.
Governor Emmanuel said “the State and the nation have been blessed by your huge contributions in fostering inter- religious harmony, unity, peaceful coexistence and above all, the projection of our moral underpinnings.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary and Senior Special Assistant, Media, Ekerete Udoh, the governor noted “You have, since 2015, when fate brought me to the leadership of this State, stood by us, praying for the peace and development we now enjoy in our dear State.
“As you turn 86 today, on behalf of the Government and the good people of Akwa Ibom State, I pray for continuous robust health and a sound mind.’’
Senator Akon Eyakenyi representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in the National Assembly said ‘‘As you mark your 86th birthday today, I give God thanks for His manifest grace expressed through your exemplary life which has over the decades glorified God and been of immense benefits to humankind.
‘‘I equally join millions the world over to rejoice with you as you celebrate another year of God’s enduring faithfulness. Indeed, you have become such a beacon and reference in the Body of Christ that we draw inspiration from. Your godly conduct, absolute humility and modesty have over the years served to motivate many who see you as a worthy role model.’’
According to her, ‘‘Sir, as God adds yet another year to your eventful years, may your strength increase and may God’s mantle upon you continue to answer for greatness and impacts.

Meanwhile, Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Uyo and Ikot Ekpene held a solemn assembly in honour of an icon, His Eminence Dr Sunday Mbang at Immanuel Methodist Cathedral, Uyo.
As expected, the service had clergymen, political class, guest artists, choirs from different diocese and lay presidents to celebrate His Eminence at 86 with thanksgiving to God.
Mbang received an award of honour for his immense contributions to the growth of Methodist Church Nigeria and was decorated by the Vice Chancellor, Wesley University and assisted by the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo.
The clergyman was born on August 26, 1936 in Eket, Nigeria’s Akwa Ibom.
He holds Diploma, Trinity College, Umuahia, Nigeria; Bachelor, University Ibadan, Nigeria, and Master of Theological, Harvard University.
A Circuit minister, Methodist Church, Ikot Abasi; circuit minister, Methodist Church, Ikot Ekpene; chaplain, Methodist Boys’ High School, Oron; and Bishop, Methodist Church, Lagos, the popular clergyman also served as President of Christian Association of Nigeria; patriarch, Prelate, Methodist Church, since 1985; Member Presidium, World Methodist Council.
