Against the background of policemen using a car to crush a man in a disturbing video, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed the erring officers to report to Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The fate of the erring officers who have been in detention in Edo State is not known yet.

Egbetokun also condemned the incident where a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Ekpoma, Edo State.

The viral video of a man in a torn white singlet, cuffed, lying on the road as passersby tried to intervene to stop police officers in a Sienna bus from running over him emerged on Twitter in the early hours of Friday.

The policeman stopped driving after the residents repeatedly yelled that the victim was under the car.

The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reacted to a viral video that captured the moment policemen in Edo State handcuffed a yet-to-be-identified man and ran a vehicle over him.

Speaking on the development, Adejobi, who described the incident as “unpoliced and unbelievable,” said the Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chidi Nwabuzor, has identified the policemen involved.

He also said that he has contacted the Edo Commissioner of Police to take urgent action on the matter.

“This is unpolice. I don’t think a normal human being can do this. To crush a man with a car? This is unbelievable. I have personally contacted the CP Edo on this. We need to take urgent action on the matter. It’s strange to me as a person,” Adejobi tweeted on Friday.

He later tweeted: “Speaking to issues is not the priority in most cases. It’s the action taken. The PPRO Edo, Chidi, has acted on the matter. In fact, he has identified the men. We will still comment further asap.”

Adejobi implored members of the public, particularly the people of Ekpoma, to remain calm as the present leadership of the NPF will not condone such an act of unprofessionalism and illegality.

Nigerian police @police is extremely heartless. See how they knocked down this young man, and later crushed him. He is currently at Irrua Specialist hospital in Edo state, battling with his life 😭😭
