As part of their oversight functions, members of the House of Representatives Committee on Health Institutions toured Federal Medical Centres (FMC) and Federal Universities Teaching Hospitals in the South-South geo-political zone.
Led by Hon. (Dr.) Pascal Obi (APC), representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency of Imo State and the secretariat by Mrs. Joyce Umoren, Deputy Director/Clerk of Committee, they arrived at Asaba, Delta State.
On their arrival, they paid courtesy visit on the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Joseph Chike Edozien in his palace.
The paramount traditional ruler of Asaba is a foremost medical researcher and fourth Nigerian Professor at the University of Ibadan. He became Dean of Faculty of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 1962.
Obi who is the Chairman of the committee congratulated the Asagba on his 96th birthday celebration in July 2020, and wished him more fruitful years on the throne of his forebears.
He informed him that they were in Asaba, his Kingdom to oversee and inspect facilities in the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, Delta State as part of the committee’s oversight functions.
The Asagba welcomed them to his palace, and prayed for their success in their working visit to the various health institutions in the region.
Prof. Edozien hoped that their visit would bring about proper equipment in, and provision of, more basic facilities in the health institutions to enhance improved health-care delivery services for the people.
Earlier, the committee had toured University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State; University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State and Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo State.
