A flood victim from Warri, Delta State of Nigeria who lost her property to rampaging flood that destroyed farmlands and other valuable in the area last week has notched a fortune to bring back her life.
As the good Book says that a man’s gift makes a way for him (in this case her), Kate Dekpe granted interview to Channels Television reporter in pidgin English in a poetic manner.
Apart from losing her earthly possessions, Dekpe had a zero bank account.
This rare expression of words of using pidgin to describe the disaster attracted the attention of Reno Omokri, a one-time aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
“Can you help me identify this woman? I want to financially assist her, not because of the loss she suffered from the flood, but because her pidgin English is the most poetic l dialect I have ever heard in the English language. Send her details to info@renoomokri.org #RenosNuggets,” Omokri enquired from his teeming fans throughTwitter.
In his Twitter handle, the social media commentator and critic wrote “Last week, Kate Dekpe, the poetic pidgin English speaker from Warri, had ₦0 in her account. Today, due to the generosity of my followers, Kate just told me she now has ₦255,147 in her account. I urge all my followers who have‘nt donated to please consider doing so! #RenosNuggets.’’
The latest donation came from Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential hopeful, who sent N500,000 to the flood victim.
On Saturday, September 22, he tweeted again “I am pleased to announce that His Excellency, @Atiku Abubakar, has made a donation of ₦500,000 to Kate Dekpe, to help her get her life back together after losing her earthly possessions in a flood. Your Excellency, may almighty God reward you! #RenosNuggets.”
Omokri added that “The Delta state Commissioner for Information personally called Kate to inform her that the state government is sending relief to her.”
