The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem, was on Saturday, November 5, honoured as the Best House of Representatives Member for 2022.

Idem who is also the Deputy Chairman Communications Committee was honoured with the highly coveted award at the Igbere TV Leadership Excellence Award ceremony held at Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

He polled 265,348 votes to defeat three other nominees: Rep. AabdulGaniyu Olododo 218,634 votes; Rep. Usman Kumo 114,678 votes; and Rep. Sha’aban Sharada 53,968 votes.

Speaking to journalists after the honour, the Ukanafun-born lawmaker dedicated the award to the people of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, for giving him their mandate to be their spokesperson and representative at the National Assembly.

He thanked the organisers for the honour done him, and for singling him out of the 360 members of the House of Representatives for the recognition.

Idem commended the Igbere TV for not monetizing the award but ensured that all the awardees emerged based on merit and track record of service to humanity.

The lawmaker pledged to do more than he has already done in the first term to improve their lives and well-being.

Idem who has already received the PDP ticket to return to the National Assembly for a second term, urged the electorates to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the electioneering process.

“While I dedicate this award to my constituents, I urge the electorates to roll up their sleeves and get involved in the electioneering process that will usher in a new set of leaders at all levels. Their involvement and votes are important to the success of the emergence of a new government,” Idem said.

Early this year, Idem, the initiator of skills empowerment for 5,000 youths, was voted as the 2022 Best Federal Lawmaker on Constituency Development by Nigerian Union of Journalists.

In 2021, he was voted as Daily Independent Newspaper Best Federal Lawmaker of the Year while in 2020, he was voted as the Most Outstanding Lawmaker on Constituency Development and Apostle of Motions by the House of Representatives Press Corps.

The honours are based on his huge investments in human capital development, promotion of digital economy, excellent legislative representation, execution of life touching projects, and exemplary leadership in and out of the national assembly.

So far, he has sponsored 16 bills, 17 motions, and on October 18, 2022, commenced inauguration of 20 out of 40 life-touching projects executed by his Office, spread across the federal constituency.

Other eminent Nigerians honoured alongside Hon. Idem were Governors Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State, the Chief Whip of the Senate, Orji Uzor Kalu, among others.

Dignitaries who accompanied Rep. Unyime Idem to the award ceremony were High Chief Earl Osaro Onaiwu, former Director General, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Alhadji Abdul Shuaibu, MD/CEO, Brentford Services Limited, Abuja, Prince Godwin Momoh, Director of Mobilisation Atiku Campaign Support Group, Dr. Nicholas, Director of Strategy Atiku Campaign Support Group.
