Jose Mourinho, a popular football manager and technician, has been shown the door by the Spurs after 17 months on the saddle of the team, bringing his contract due to end in the summer of 2023 to a premature conclusion.
Confirming this Monday, Tottenham Hotspurs in its Twitter penned ‘’The Club can today announce that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have been relieved of their duties.
Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham manager in November 2019; Portuguese head coach led Spurs to sixth-place finish in the Premier League during first season in charge.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has been relieved of his duties in the wake of a Super League announcement in north London which the team is expected to face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
In his first campaign, Mourinho took Tottenham from 14th in the Premier League to finish sixth – securing Europa League qualification – but were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by RB Leipzig.
Mourinho leaves Spurs seventh in the table, five points off the Champions League places.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, said: “Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.
“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic. On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.
He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution.”
