Akwa Ibom journalist, Edem Okon and 48 others have been conferred with National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award.
President Muhammadu Buhari flanked by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige conferred Okon with the award also extended a warm handshake to him.
Okon is an Assistant Director of Information with the state Ministry of Information and Strategy, Uyo but attached to Office of the Head of Civil Service.
A holder of B.A (Theatre of Arts) and LL.B from the University of Uyo and B.L, as well as PGD (Journalism) from International Institute of Journalism, he bagged the award from Individual Award group.
In an interview with Straightnews on Friday, May 13, Okon dedicated the award to Akwa Ibom Government, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Head of Civil Service, colleagues and God Almighty.

Okon who once served as the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information Chapel said the award was based on reward system, pledging to put in more effort to enhance productivity in the state civil service.
Meanwhile, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council has congratulated Comrade Edem Okon on National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) award.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, has conveyed its best wishes to Comrade Edem Okon of the State Information Chapel on the conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award.
The Union, in a statement signed by Comrade Amos Etuk and Comrade Dominic Akpan, State Chairman and Secretary, respectively, congratulated Edem for winning the award, describing it as a testimonial to his hard work, dedication and excellence in service delivery.
While noting that the award, is indeed, a reward for high productivity, the Union urged Edem, who won the NUJ Best Information Officer award in 2019, not to rest on his oars, but to keep the flag of diligence and commitment to his duties flying at a higher altitude, because his employer and the people are watching.
On the other hand, the Union lauded the NPOM Selection Committee members for their probity and fairness in the discharge of their mandate.
The National Productivity Order of Merit Award is organised by the National Productivity Centre as an arm of the Federal Government instituted to recognise and honour productive individuals and organizations in Nigeria in the year of the award for achievements made in the three preceding years.
The centre was established to improve the quantity and quality of goods and services available for consumption in Nigeria as a means for increasing wealth.
