A member representing Dutsinma/Kurfi constituency in the House of Representatives, Danlami Muh’d Kurfi, weekend escaped being lynched by youths of his constituency.
Kurfi, while on a condolence visit to the area, was said to have been attacked by youths who claimed they had lost confidence in him over his failure to fulfill electioneering promises.
In a telephone call, the lawmaker, who confirmed the incident, said he was attacked by the youths because of the job offers he made to some members of his constituency, stressing that those who did not benefit from it accused him of discrimination on grounds of religion.
He described the attack as the handiwork of mischief makers who were bent on using religion to cause trouble, saying, “The attack erupted after I gave out about 25 slots of job offer (10 slots at Teachers Board and 15 slots at Federal University) and some disgruntle elements claimed the sharing did not favoured the Darika sect and that the sharing was one-sided.
“Those who said these were not being fair to me because as a lawmaker, everybody is mine, irrespective of their sect. And so the matter that I favoured Izala sect and don’t favour the Darika sect does not arise.
“In the recent past, I built a Juma’at mosque for the Darika sect, bought an Islamic school for them worth about N1 million, so it’s not true that the Darika sect is not favoured.”
He debunked allegation by some people from his constituency who, a radio programme, alleged he has never got jobs for people in his constituency, saying at the federal level, nobody has got 15 offers at a stretch for his people.
