Frank Lampard has accepted an offer to become Chelsea interim manager until the end of the 2022-23 English Premier League season.
Lampard was manager of Chelsea for one-and-a-half years before he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
The London club are currently without a permanent head coach after Graham Potter was sacked last Sunday after seven months in charge following a poor run of results.

On Thursday morning, Sky Sports reported Lampard and Chelsea have agreed a short-term deal that saw him returning to the club.
Bruno Saltor, who was previously part of Potter’s coaching staff at Brighton and then Chelsea, took charge of the west London club’s 0-0 draw against Liverpool on Tuesday evening.
Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley are leading the search for Chelsea’s next permanent boss before the decision will ultimately be made by co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
Lampard, who attended Chelsea’s 0-0 draw at home to Liverpool on Tuesday April 4, is the man the club’s American owners have turned to turn things around at the club.
Chelsea, which occupy 11th position in the Premier League table, play Wolves on Saturday before their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid next week.
Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said: ‘‘We are delighted to welcome Frank back to Stamford Bridge. Frank is a Premier League Hall of Famer and a legend at this club.
‘‘As we continue our thorough and exhaustive process for a permanent head coach, we want to provide the club and our fans with a clear and stable plan for the remainder of the season. We want to give ourselves every chance of success and Frank has all of the characteristics and qualities we need to drive us to the finish line.
‘‘We have an important game against Wolves on Saturday and then we will turn our attention to our Champions League quarter-final in Madrid next week. We are all going to give Frank our full backing as we aim to get the best possible outcome from all our remaining games.’’
