Barring last-minute lobbying and permutations, some major contenders for Senate leadership are collapsing structures and parties in support of the ambition of Godswill Akpabio as the next Senate President.

The outgone Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has agreed to work for the emergence of the Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President, Senator Hope Uzodimma said.

Barely 24 hours before the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Uzodimma broke the news to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on the occasion of June 12 Democracy Day on Monday.

He has expressed confidence that Akpabio, who is the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for choice for the Senate President will emerge winner on Tuesday, June 13.

He said Akpabio’s acceptance is across party lines.

Senators Orji Uzor Kalu and Ben Izunaso had met with Akpabio and pledged their support with him.

In his remarks, Akpabio pledged to  meet aspirations of Nigerians, enact bills their welfare, as well as work with all Senators irrespective of political affiliations.

Akpabio, Jibrin have not stepped down – Udom

Mewanhile, Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau have not stepped down from the senate leadership race as being circulated in some highly compromised online media.

A press release by Akpabios’s press secretary, Jackson Udom on Monday night says ‘‘the truth of the matter is that his support base among his colleagues is swelling per minute.

”Please, disregard the purported withdrawal of the duo from the race. it is a figment of the imagination of the backers of the fake news,’’ Udom enjoined.
