An Akwa Ibom son has stated his readiness to attempt a 150-hour Guinness World Record (GWR) title for the longest teaching of Mathematics lesson.
Tagged Math-a-thon 2024, the event will commence Saturday, April 20, 2024 to last for seven days.
The candidate is Mr. Uduak Nanga, an indigene of Osuk Ediene in Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Popularly known as MC Calculus, Nanga is an HND Electronics/Electrical Engineering graduate from the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua in Ikot Ekpene.

Though no world record holder exists, Samuel Oluwapelumi, a Nigerian and a 400-level Mathematics undergraduate of Federal University of Technology, Akure, attempted to clinch the coveted GWR in 84 hours in four days.
Addressing the press King’s Kids Christian International School, Uyo, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, venue of the event, Nanga said he cracks the hardest Mathematics problems with the knuckles of God-endowed wits.
‘‘While growing up, I came to hear most of my friends saying Mathematics is quite a difficult subject, hence they dreaded it; yet it was one of subject I enjoyed the most throughout my early scholarly years.
‘‘Beside God my creator, Mathematics is indeed my first love, my passion. I take great great pleasure in teaching Mathematics to all groups of persons for as long as they are ready and willing to go with me.’’
According to him, ‘‘We should not forget that Mathematics provides mental strength and encourages logical reasoning. It cuts across all facets of life endeavours whether in the areas of Data Analysis, Time and Organisational Management and even in situations of critical decision making, Mathematics readily comes in handy.’’
He announced plans to formally launch the Mathematics Club of Nigeria (MCN) in secondary schools in the country.
The Math-a-thon candidate further announced readiness to use Math-a-thon project in Nigeria to impact humanity as well as donate wheel chairs and reading materials to physically.
The Director of King’s Kids Christian International School, Uyo Professor Etim Udoessien said his school is set to host the event beginning from April 20 to last for seven days.
Professor Udoessien, who is also project Supervisor, commended Math-a-thon team, led by Calculus Nanga in his attempt to break the Guinness World Records for the longest lesson in Mathematics.
He said the school is a coeducational day and boarding Cambridge school, maintaining the United Nations approved teacher-to- student ration standard for secondary education.
According to him, the school is equipped with up-to-date facilities with qualified, committed, motivated and well-trained teachers combining the Cambridge and the Nigerian curricula to prepare the students for both national and Cambridge examinations.
Also speaking, Dr. (Mrs) Cecilia Udoessien who is the Administrator of King’s Kids Christian International School, Uyo, described the school as divine project, saying the school management did not know Uduak Nanga.
Nanga, according to her, was divinely led to the school to locate the school for the hosting of the event which would attract global attention to the candidate and the school.
‘‘Mathematics is a dreaded subject and it is fun. I am happy to know that Uduak Nanga loves Mathematics. He will make us proud. He will make the school, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria proud based on his GWR attempt,’’ the retired Akwa Ibom Head of Civil Service stated.
