The husband of Mrs Toluige Olokoobi Babalola, mother of the viral “Mummy calm down” boy, and his neighbours have differing views on how the woman died.

Mrs Babalola reportedly died by suicide this week.

The husband told the police that he came home and found his wife hanging with rope on her neck.

But, the neighbours contradicted the man’s claim that when they went into the room, they saw him on top of the wife.

However, a spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed that the deceased’s husband, a driver and car dealer, has been arrested and detained by the police.

Nwabuzor told the BBC NEWS Pidgin that the husband told the police that he came home from the market to meet his wife hanging with rope on her neck and he alerted the neighbours who followed him to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. Her remains were deposited in a mortuary.

The spokesperson said following the neighbours’ contrasting testimonies, the police were compelled to arrest and detain the husband for further investigation by the SCID detectives.

Mrs Babalola became popular when a video showing her then four-year-old son begging her to calm down and rest a little when she tried to whip him went viral some years ago.

The video showed the little boy on his knees frantically begging his mother after offending her went viral in 2020. In the video, the little boy was seen crying and begging his mom to ‘calm down and rest a little’ before acting against him.

The four-year-old kid became a social media sensation after the video went viral.

It elicited the attention of many, including Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

An Abuja-based real estate outfit, T Pumpy Concept Limited signed the young boy as one of its brand ambassadors.
