Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS), in the early hours of Friday, 19 December, 2025, enforced a court ruling by sealing Uyo Office of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nig. Ltd., over N1,255,419,711.70 tax liability.
This marked a major crackdown on taxt default and enforcement of revenue laws in the state.
The High Court of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, Onna Judicial Division, Awa, had issued the Enrolment Order on 13 November, 2025, but AKIRS sealed off the company operating in the State with headquarters at 5 Aka Community Road, Uyo.

In the Suit No. HAW/MISC.14/2025 under exparte motion brought by AKIRS represented by Barr. Inyene Ibe-Bassey against China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) Nig. Ltd., the Revenue Service urged the court to grant the distrain application against the respondent having regards to their unwillingness to remit their tax liability to Akwa Ibom State Government .
Delivering judgment, Justice Effiong Effiong who presided over the Court said this was pursuant to Section 104 (4) of the Personal Income Tax Act CAP P8 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2011, Section 40 of the Revenue Administration Law of Akwa Ibom State 2022, Order 36, Rule 1 (1) of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024.
Justice Effiong relying on Warrant of Distrain issued the order upon any land, premises or place of business in respect to the Respondent as the owner or occupier in Akwa Ibom State, in line with outstanding tax liability of N1,255,419,711.70).

The Warrant of Distrain, according to him, was issued against any moveable goods, bond or securities or any kind of property belonging to the Respondent in line with the Tax Liability as final and conducive taxes due to the Applicant.
The enforcement team of AKIRS carried out the sealing to compel the company to clear the huge debt.
