    Nasarawa Associate Professor, three children remanded over assault

    Nasarawa Associate Professor and his three children have been remanded in prison custody waiting formal arraignment for assaulting a 20-year-old student.

     Fred Ayokhai, 53, an associate professor at the Department of History and International Relations, Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa, together with his children, was caught on camera assaulting and stripping the lady identified as Blessing Mathias, naked.

    The lecturer, his children: Emmanuela  Ayokhai ,18, Bob Praise Ayokhai, 23, and Saint-Dan Ayokhai, 21, were arrested on Saturday, October 22.

    Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement, said the accused were arraigned at High Court 1, Lafia, before Justice Aisha Aliyu, the Chief Judge of the state on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

    Nansel explained that they were arraigned on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, house breaking and criminal force or assault to woman with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping and inflicting physical injury on another.

    ‘‘The offences are punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, Section 3(1) & 4 of the Nasarawa State Kidnapping (prohibition) Law, 2019, Section 268 (2) & 354 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3 (1) of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) Law, 2019,’’ according to the statement.

    The case has been assigned to High Court, Obi for trial while the suspects have been remanded.
