Nigeria rounded off its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with an impressive seventh-place finish on the final medals table, securing 24 medals across various sports.

Team Nigeria won 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals to finish with a total haul of 24 medals, placing seventh among the participating Commonwealth nations.

Australia dominated the Games, topping the medals table with 70 gold, 45 silver and 56 bronze medals for a total of 171 medals.

England finished second with 29 gold medals and 110 medals overall, while Canada claimed third place with 19 gold medals and 62 medals.

India and hosts Scotland occupied fourth and fifth positions respectively, each winning 13 gold medals, while New Zealand finished sixth with 10 gold medals and 36 overall.

Nigeria’s 10 gold medals matched Jamaica’s tally, but the country’s superior silver-medal count ensured it finished ahead of the Caribbean nation, which placed eighth with 19 medals. Wales and Malaysia completed the top 10.

The seventh-place finish underscores Nigeria’s continued status as one of Africa’s leading sporting nations at the Commonwealth Games, with the country’s athletes delivering strong performances across multiple disciplines.

A total of 674 medals, comprising 216 gold, 215 silver and 243 bronze, were awarded during the Games, which concluded on Sunday in Glasgow.

The Games themselves were a major success. Over 11 days, more than 74 nations and territories competed in 10 sports, with 1,168 medals awarded across 215 medal events.

Organisers said more than 630,000 people attended events, live sites and the Glasgow 2026 Festival. More than 4,000 volunteers contributed over 156,000 hours of service, while the Games’ social media platforms attracted almost half a billion views worldwide.

With Glasgow 2026 now over, attention will gradually turn to the World Championships and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where many of these athletes will hope to build on the confidence and momentum gained in Scotland.
