Some roadside women traders in Akwa Ibom State were shocked as Akwa Ibom Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel broke protocol with a surprise stop-over along Uyo-Mbiokporo Road to patronise their petty business.
The Governor who returned to Uyo on Friday after an official function in the state, stopped long convoy at popular fruits market at Ekpene Ikpan junction in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, to purchase fruits.
Without for bargaining for the pears and banana, he pulled out minted Naira notes with each bunch containing N50,000 and bought a plate of pears to one of the women traders.
As luck smiled on the two for collecting N50,000 each for fruits worth about N1,000 each, the women hailed him for the gesture.
Accompanied by some of his aides and security personnel, the governor bought some fruits from the women.
He also encouraged them with some token to support their business.
The governor’s gesture towards the roadside sellers left them in a shock as they never expected such from the governor.
The women could not hide their joy as they thanked the governor and prayed God to continue to protect him in his administration.
