Some prominent Nigerians have mourned over the demise of Abba Kyari, immediate past Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, buried on Saturday at Gudu cemetery, Abuja.
Kyari died Friday and his remains arrived at the Defence Guest House in Abuja where it was received by top government functionaries and sympathisers who were visibly in a sorrow mood.
Though the body was not displayed, some officials of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control were seen around the ambulance conveying the remains assisted in the burial.
Moments after the prayer, Kyari’s remains were interred at Gudu Cemetery.
The former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari on the death of his Chief of Staff, describing Kyari’s exit as great sadness.
Obasanjo through a letter addressed to the President and released by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi said he knows that Kyari’s death must be painful to President Muhammadu Buhari, his family and friends but they should all take solace in the fact that he died in the service of his country.
He added that his death must be a solemn reminder to all that COVID-19 requires all hands on deck soberly, cooperatively, humanly, humanely, justly, equitably, fairly, consolidatedly and comprehensively to be able to fight it successfully and to get all Nigerians back to good health and a healthy economy.
He prayed that God gives the President and the family of Abba Kyari the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has also expressed shock and sadness over the passing of Kyari.
Lawan condoled with Mallam Kyari’s family, as well as the people of Borno State over the great loss.
The Senate President also condoled with President Buhari over the loss of a very competent, dedicated and loyal aide, who was a pillar in his administration.
The Senator described Kyari as very deep, firm, focused and unassuming in his national assignment until his death.
“He was a man of deep convictions and courage who understood his role and performed it with uncommon dedication and effectiveness.
“He shared the values of President Buhari and his passion for the emancipation of the poor in Nigeria and the all-round development of the country for the benefit of all its people.
“Mallam Kyari played his role well and will always be appreciated, more so now that the Almighty Allah has called time on his earthly sojourn.”
The Senate President prayed that Allah will accept his soul into al-Jannah and comfort all who have been left in grief by his passage.
Kyari the Chief of Staff to President Buhari was appointed to the position on August 27, 2015.
