Nigerians are angry on the alleged gruesome murder of a final-year Civil Engineering student of the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State.

Gabriel Bassey Edward, a “devoted Catholic” was found dead in his apartment, but the accusing is pointed at one Pastor Prince Emmanuel of Winners Chapel.

According to the family, Edward was killed on Monday, December 21, but his body was not discovered on Saturday, December 26.

Aisha Yesufu, popular human rights activists exclaimed “What? Oh! My goodness!” I just hope that the late Gabriel gets justice, and whoever is responsible for his death should not go unpunished.

“If it’s the Pastor that’s found to be guilty, he should be punished. Or whoever the culprits are. No matter the status of a person, killing someone is not acceptable.

Another human rights activist, Inibehe Effiong said that they young man was found dead in his home on Saturday.

According to a Twitter user Inibehe Effiong, who posted the details online, said Gabriel Bassey Edward was the final Year student that was murdered.

Effiong, also a legal practitioner, said that the Prime suspect of the crime is a young pastor, who is in charge of Living faith church that happens to be in the same building with the victim. The church is located in Akwa Ibom State.

He said that the Pastor whose name is Pastor Prince Emmanuel, was arrested by the police but was released that same day.

He said they were strong reasons, why the Pastor is the prime suspect but he did not give the reason.

He then narrated how he is trying to follow up the case and make sure that late Gabriel gets justice.

He also gave details of how far the case is currently going. Effiong said that Gabriel was a strong catholic, and he a devoted fellow. After he shared the story, many Nigerians have reacted to it.

The human rights activist said “It will be a costly mistake for Winners Chapel or her members to pervert justice in the case of Gabriel. Don’t’ try it.

“If you are a true Christian or religious bigot, advise Winners Chapel to fully cooperate with the police. All these ridiculous comments about protecting the image of the church will not deter me.

“Members and leaders are trying to compromise investigation into the murder of Gabriel Bassey Edward;  a devoted Catholic and a final year student of Civil Engineering student if University of Uyo.

“I am only sending a warning so that nobody will say we did not warn the church to allow justice to prevail. Be rest assured that I will elaborate anytime from now (within the next 48 hours.)”

Kesh Umoh, a Facebook user claiming to be the first cousin of the deceased took to Facebook to call out Winners Chapel and alleged that his cousin was killed by a pastor of the church.

Sharing a photo of the deceased on Dec 27, he wrote “His rotting body was discovered yesterday in his apartment in Mbiabóng full of matchete cuts. He was killed on Monday.

“Neighbors saw a Living Faith Church Pastor AKA Winners Chapel Pastor leaving the compound with blood stains on him on that same Monday. When asked he said he fell down and bruised himself. The young man had issues with the Pastor.

“Winners Chapel: that young man, Gabriel Bassey Edward is a final-year student of Civil Engineering and he happens to be my FIRST COUSIN,” Umoh wrote.

Akwa Ibom Police Command is yet to react to the alleged murder.
