Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Thursday, showed profuse excitement for pioneering herbal cure for the deadly COVID-19.

So far, the pandemic has killed more than 2.5 million people globally and 1891 Nigerians.

As a result, some advanced countries depending on the variants of COVID-19 have proffered COVAX, MODERNA and other vaccines to curb the ravaging virus.

However, Ooni while unveiling herbal drugs for the treatment of Coronavirus said the Federal Government is aware of the drug and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved it.

The drugs were researched and produced by Yem-Kem International Group under the leadership of Dr. Akintunde Ayeni in collaboration with Oba Ogunwusi’s outfit, Ooni Ojaja Global Outreach.

Ooni said “Today is a great day in the history of this great nation, I give kudos to the Minister of health, NAFDAC [director-general] and the presidency for the success of these products.”

“I want to announce to the whole world that there is a new phase in traditional medicine research. We have been on this research for some time. It’s 100 percent a private initiative and to the glory of God, NAFDAC gave us all approval last year September. And we ensure that the products were effective”.

“We have started using it for COVID-19 patients, including political office holders since last year September. Now we are very convinced that something very good is coming out of Nigeria.”

“I have been using this drug to boost my immunity. This is our own vaccine to combat covid-19,” Ooni said.

Nigeria has best herbs for vaccine production

Speaking further, Ooni said it is a proven fact which is equally established by the World Health Organization that Africa and indeed Nigeria have the best herbs which could be used for vaccine production.

“We have worked with various stakeholders in the health sector including the NAFDAC, Federal and Osun State Ministries of Health, Standard Organization of Nigeria and many others who have been so supportive.

“To the glory of God, NAFDAC gave us all the approvals last September but I insisted that the products be packaged properly. To the glory of God, these products have been tested especially on thousands of COVID-19 patients including some in positions of authority who are currently free from the pandemic.

“We are not doing this in isolation and I am happy to inform you that the National Assembly is currently working on a bill of the Federal Executive Council, on medical research that is alternative to orthodox medicine which is the herbal medicine

“Now that we have gotten here, our focus is to employ one hundred thousand (100,000) youths within the next fifteen months. This will be achieved virtually,” the Ooni said.

Speaking on behalf of the Ogun health commissioner, Gbenga Adepoju, who is the Director of Public Health in the Ministry, pledged government’s support for the products, noting the country has what it takes to solve her problems.

The Executive Chairman of Yem-Kem International, Dr. Akintunde Ayeni said the drugs would complement the efforts of the federal government to improve orthodox health-care services.

Ayeni said, “Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni, called me personally and sent some herbs to me to research upon.”

Ayeni said the drugs would take care of COVID-19 and that bitter leaf capsule was also produced for the treatment of diabetes and high blood pressure.

The drugs are Verozil, Bitter Leaf Capsule, Vision Pro and Rio Capsule

In their separate speeches, NAFDAC’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Jimoh Abubakar and the representative of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Engr. Gideon Amosun, jointly declared the support of their organizations for the products as they lauded Ooni for the medical breakthrough.
