The acting National Secretary of All Progressives Congress Caretaker Committee, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe says the problem of most people is not allowing familiar persons to grow or prosper for fear of overtaking them in life.
Udoedehe who celebrated his 57th birthday anniversary with journalists at NUJ Press Centre, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State on Monday lamented that in the process people make mistake of entrusting mandate to others who come from mega cities at the expense of giving such familiar persons who may have what it takes to lead others.
The one-time Uyo Local Government boss dismissed as false and erroneous the idea that Lagos returnees to Akwa Ibom are the most cerebral in governance.
The politician who hails from Afaha Offot in Uyo Local Government Area might have spoken in pejorative terms against the wanting performance of the present Akwa Ibom government.
While indirectly mocking the sarcastic thought of some politicians in the state that the present government would usher superior performance, he blamed the electorate for being beguiled to feel inferior to others.
The one-time Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory said “I deliberately allowed you to choose those from Lagos to lead in the state because you assume they are more cerebral than the residents in the state. Someone will come and pose to be knowledgeable in everything just to make you inferior.
“Have you forgotten that they finished from secondary commercial schools, left for Lagos and got jobs? They are also local people. What they have more than you is opportunity. One of you can become and perform as a governor.
“Our problem is we do not allow someone we know to rise or grow. We think that those from Lagos are better. You cannot grow with this mentality,” the APC scribe noted.
