Despite losing the 2024 Grammy Awards, President Bola Tinubu has hailed Nigeria’s six musical stars nominated for the awards namely Burna Boy, Davido, Olamide, Tems, Asake, and Ayra Starr.
History has it that the first award ceremony was held simultaneously in two locations on May 4, 1959, the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, and the Park Sheraton Hotel, New York City, New York, with 28 Grammys awarded.
A release issued on Monday evening by his Media Adviser, Ajuri Ngelale, said Tinubu celebrated the musical marvels who have put Nigeria on the chart of cultural command through their artistry and anthemic earworms, building and earning our nation enormous soft power.
President Tinubu commended the exceptional artists for their fidelity to the art, audacity, and discipline in the pursuit of excellence.
According to him, “Our superstars nominated for the Grammy Awards are all winners. I am proud of their exploits. They represent that Nigerian ideal; the courage to strive and succeed against all odds and the hope to stay true to purpose. I congratulate and thank them for being exemplary envoys of Nigeria”.
Meanwhile, Nigerian artistes failed to bag an award at the 66th Grammy Awards ceremony held at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles., United States on Sunday.
Five artistes of Nigerian descent – David Adeleke, aka, Davido; Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy; Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake; Olamide Adedeji, aka Baddo; and Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, aka Ayra Starr; all lost out of the Grammy in their combined 10 nominations across different award categories.
In November 2023, the five artistes were nominated for the 2024 Grammy Awards.
